1Where will you apply it?

Choose where you will apply the microcement. On walls, say whether it is plasterboard / plaster or render / tiles: each surface needs different preparation. Tick “Bathroom or wet area” if the surface will be in frequent contact with water.

2How big is the surface?

Measure the length and height (or width) in metres. We round up to the next whole square metre. If the surface is not a rectangle, split it into parts, add up the square metres and enter the total in “Length (m)” and a 1 in “Height / width (m)”.

3Texture and finish

The texture is the grain of the microcement. Coarse: evens out the surface. Medium: a soft texture. Fine: smooth and silky. The finish is the final sheen, from matt to gloss.

Before you start

The basics, explained from scratch

If you have never worked with microcement, start here. Four ideas to know before you choose your kit.

What is microcement?

It is a seamless, continuous coating applied with a trowel over the existing surface: tiles, marble, plaster, plasterboard or concrete.

That is why no demolition or building work is needed. It suits walls, floors, bathrooms, kitchens and furniture.

What a kit includes

Each kit is a complete system for the surface you choose. It includes:

  • Bonding primer, so the microcement grips.
  • Ready microcement in your chosen texture.
  • Pigment in your chosen colour.
  • Varnish to protect the surface.
  • G80 and G120 sandpaper.

Depending on the surface, it also includes Ready Base, mesh and sealer. You can see the exact contents on each kit’s page.

How many square metres a kit covers

Kits are sold by the square metre. You enter the area and the calculator combines kit sizes to leave the least surplus.

We round up to the next whole square metre: it is better to have a little material left over than to run short halfway through.

Tools you need

Kits do not include tools. The tool set includes a stainless steel trowel, a spatula and a short-pile roller.

You will also need an electric mixer with a helical paddle, a brush and masking tape.

Step by step

How it is applied

This is the process with the Ready system, from preparation to final drying.

  1. Prepare the surface

The surface must be firm, clean and dry. Repair or fix any loose or damaged tiles, clean with a damp cloth and let it dry completely.

  2. Apply the bonding primer

One coat with a roller. On plasterboard, dilute 1:1 with water and use no mesh. On render, dilute 1:1 with water and use mesh. On tiles, apply undiluted and use mesh.

Wait until it is touch-dry: nothing sticks and nothing marks when you touch it. The time depends on temperature and humidity, not on the clock.

  3. Mix in the pigment

Use 250 g of pigment per 10 kg of microcement. Mix for 2 to 3 minutes with the mixer until no lumps or streaks remain.

The pigment goes into every coat. Mix all the material for one surface at the same time to avoid colour differences.

  4. Apply the base coats

Two coats with the stainless steel trowel, held at 15 to 20°, in thin, even strokes. After each coat, sand off the ridges with G80 paper before it is fully dry.

This step is not needed on plasterboard or plaster, nor on furniture and worktops.

  5. Apply the finishing coats

Two coats with the stainless steel trowel, held at 15 to 20°, crossing the strokes to avoid a visible direction. After each coat, sand off the ridges with G120 paper before it is fully dry.

  6. Seal and varnish

Sealer is applied only on floors, worktops and furniture: one coat with a roller, crossed, on a dry, dust-free surface, leaving at least 8 hours to dry.

Varnish is two coats of single-component on walls, and three coats of two-component on floors and furniture. Leave at least 8 hours between coats and apply the next only when the previous one is touch-dry.

In showers and areas with direct contact with water, finish with a coat of water repellent.

  7. Let it dry before use

Let the microcement dry for at least 24 to 48 hours before using it. In high humidity or cold it may take longer.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I apply it myself without experience?

Yes, if you follow the steps in order and respect the drying times. Ready is a ready-to-use microcement, and each kit includes the products you need.

If you would rather have a professional team apply it, write to us and we will prepare a quote.

How long does it take to dry?

Between coats, until the surface is touch-dry: nothing sticks and nothing marks when you touch it. There is no fixed time, because it depends on temperature and humidity.

Sealer and varnish need at least 8 hours. After the last coat, wait 24 to 48 hours before using the surface.

How do I measure an irregular surface?

Split it into rectangles, measure the length and height of each one and add up the square metres. In the calculator, enter the total in “Length” and a 1 in “Height / width”.

If you are unsure between two measurements, round up.

Is shipping included?

Yes, transport is included in the price. We deliver to Spain, Andorra, Portugal, France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and the United Kingdom.
